Nature Endormie

2020 · Permanent work, paint on wood and corrugated sheet metal, Torcy

A commission for the social housing provider Action Logement, following a call for projects: Nature Endormie was selected to permanently cover a chalet in a social housing residence in Torcy (77).

This open-air forest, whose walls and roof were painted by hand, is a nod to our mother house.

A large plant native to Africa, Sansevieria trifasciata (Saint George’s sword), is painted across the four walls of the cabin. In South American culture, this plant is placed at the entrance of homes and shops to ward off bad energy, like an amulet that gives strength in everyday life. On the roof appears a Calathea, a dancing plant native to tropical America.

Plants that, like a large part of the world’s population, migrate, adapt and grow new roots to grow stronger.
